The Rewards of Time Spent with the Lord in Prayer

February 17, 2019 | 0 comments

We live in a world where there’s always more to do than there is time in a day. However, for many of us, we choose the tackling of our to-do list over spending time with Jesus. This usually results with stress, anxiety and worry because; a) the list never ends and b) this strategy is flawed. Today, we focus on the rewards of spending more time with Jesus, less time on to-do’s and still accomplishing more.

Time Spent with Jesus = Wisdom Gained

First and foremost, the more time we spend with Jesus, the more wisdom we gain. This is the most important point to understand here. We can’t absorb all the wisdom that God has to offer unless we first spend the time to acquire it. Just like anything else, if you don’t put in the time, you can’t expect the benefits.

So, we must learn to give the Lord our time and this is done through prayer. When we pray, we open the doors of our heart, allowing Jesus to enter. Once the presence of Jesus is dwelling inside us we gain access to His wisdom. This is accomplished by following His guidance. Here is where we separate what is truly important from all the rest.

Giving Time to God for the Today’s Gift of Time

Each day we received is a gift from the Lord. It is often called the “present”, which is fitting as the word gift and present are synonymous in certain contexts. God grants us each day one day at a time and our job is to do good for His kingdom. The choices we make throughout each day determine whether we’re doing good for God’s kingdom or not. The wisdom to this comes from the time we spend in prayer.

The wisdom we receive in return is proportionate to the time we spend. There is an old say that goes; work smarter, not harder. Working smarter is spending more time asking Jesus for guidance rather than stressing over what needs to get done next. When we trust in His guidance, the answers will be given to what needs to get done. Today, let’s ask the Lord for help with our hectic schedule instead of taking it upon ourselves to manage.

Daily Morning Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me this day. Thank you for the plans you have for me to do your will and further your kingdom. Today, I ask you in the name of Jesus to grant me wisdom to sort out what needs to be done and set aside the things that can wait for another time. Help me focus on your guidance by listening to Holy Spirit. Grant me wisdom, courage and strength in the name of Jesus – Amen

Psalm 32:8 (ESV)

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
